Runeterra regions: champion guide by region
Runeterra is the world where League of Legends takes place, and it is divided into regions with their own culture, history and style. Knowing which region a champion belongs to helps you remember it, and in Champ Rival the region is one of the seven clues. In the game, every champion is assigned one region; the examples in this guide are the same ones ChampRival uses.
Demacia
A proud kingdom that values justice, honour and discipline, and that distrusts magic. Its army and nobility shape the style of its champions. Examples: Garen, Lux, Fiora, Jarvan IV, Vayne and Sona.
Noxus
An expansionist empire that rewards strength and merit above where a person comes from. Its champions are usually ambitious and ruthless warriors. Examples: Darius, Draven, Katarina, Riven and Mordekaiser.
Ionia
A land of spiritual balance and harmony with nature, rich in magic and martial arts. Examples: Ahri, Irelia, Lee Sin, Master Yi, Akali and Jhin.
Freljord
A frozen and wild tundra inhabited by tribes who survive the cold and wars between clans. Examples: Ashe, Sejuani, Braum, Tryndamere, Anivia and Olaf.
Piltover
The city of progress: prosperous, commercial and devoted to invention, famous for hextech technology. Examples: Caitlyn, Jayce, Vi, Camille and Ezreal.
Zaun
The underground city that spreads beneath Piltover, industrial, polluted and full of chemical experiments. Examples: Jinx, Ekko, Singed, Viktor and Blitzcrank.
Bilgewater
A port of pirates, smugglers and sea-monster hunters. Examples: Miss Fortune, Gangplank, Graves, Nautilus and Twisted Fate.
Shurima
A desert that hid an ancient powerful empire, fallen and now rising again. Examples: Azir, Nasus, Renekton, Sivir and Xerath.
Mount Targon
The tallest mountain in Runeterra, where it is said that one can reach the power of the stars and the celestial. Examples: Leona, Diana, Soraka, Pantheon, Aphelios and Taric.
Shadow Isles
A cursed archipelago, covered by the Black Mist, which turns the dead into spectres. Examples: Thresh, Viego, Karthus, Kalista, Hecarim, Yorick and Maokai.
The Void
A threat from another dimension that consumes everything it touches; its creatures are strange and voracious. Examples: Cho’Gath, Kha’Zix, Vel’Koz, Kog’Maw, Rek’Sai, Bel’Veth, Malzahar and Kai’Sa.
Ixtal
A jungle region, isolated and dominated by masters of elemental magic. Examples: Qiyana, Neeko, Nidalee, Rengar, Zyra and Skarner.
Bandle City
The home of the yordles, small, playful and magical creatures. Examples: Teemo, Lulu, Veigar, Tristana, Corki and Rumble.
Runeterra (no specific region)
In ChampRival, the value “Runeterra” is used for champions whose origin is not tied to a specific region, such as Aatrox, Annie, Bard, Brand or Evelynn.
Tip: when you play Champ Rival, the region is usually a decisive clue. If it shows green, rule out every champion from the other regions. More tricks in the Champ Rival strategy guide.
